The Virago Brand

Brand Promise

The brand promise is that it is a book written by women, that all of the books in the virago press have been written by women, all celebrating women writers. Virago say their books are of good quality and originality.

Brand Perception

The understanding of the brand promise for the targeted consumers is that if they read one of these books, they will be reading a book written by a great women author, with good quality literature and which will be froma collection of great books from the Virago Press company.

The consumers have a relationship with the product by buying and reading the books written by these women authors.

Virago's USP

The unique selling point of Virago Press is that it is the most successful international publisher of women's literature. It is the largest women's imprint in the world and has made commercial success of publishing books of quality and originality.

Virago is purely for women authors celebrating women’s literature, only women authors show and sell their books here.

Also, even though the books are all written by women, the actual stories they write are not just aimed at other women, the audience can be both male and female.

Wai

This illustrator, Wai, i think relates really well to my brief, especially for illustrating the front cover, as this is all about celebrating women writing.
I also like the way she uses block colour in her work which is very simple, but yet still manages to show the tones and emotions of the objects in her work.
The colours also are colours that i am thinking about working with in my front cover illustration, the colours and the themes in Wai's work relates perfectly to 'Virago'.

Colin Elgie

I have looked at Colin Elgie work because of the way he works with line and the busyness in his illustrations.

I really line the line and tones or black, white and grey in this image. This especially gives me inspiration for my black and white inside spot illustration.

I have chosen to display this illustration by Colin Elgie because i love the way he uses so many objects and his work is so busy. The variation of colours and jam packed look is great as inspiration for my front cover for the brief i am working on, as the front cover is about celebration.

Inside black and white illustration

For the inside spot illustration i will be using only black, white and greyscale for the colour. Below is a colour pallet showing these colours that i intend to use.

What does the target audience live in?

My target audience can live anywhere and in most kind of accommodations. This because the target audience is so wide and can be for any person that enjoys reading.
Here is a few examples of places that the target audience could live in.

Just people in a general house would read, including all the family.

Older/disabled and retired people who may live in bungalows are a definate choice because these people generally do not work so have much spare time on there hands to sit, relax and read.

Adults living in flats who may be on benefits or may not have a job would also have time for reading, or even people who just live in flats or students living in flats may have to read for courses etc.

Older or retired people may even live in a houseboat. These type of people i consider to read quite a lot, because they have a lot of spare time and reading is very relaxing while drifting down a large river in your boat.

Colour Pallet

The colour scheme for the project that i am working on is very varied. Because i am creating two final pieces the colour range is very different.
